Positive Discipline
An essential part of our mission at Chance is teaching children to develop self-control and assume responsibility for their actions. Students are expected to treat each other with the same respect and dignity that they see consistently modeled for them by the adults at the school. Using positive disciplinary techniques, we take time to make sure children understand how their decisions affect themselves and others, and help them learn to make better choices. With practice and experience, the classroom functions as a community of learners and provides a safe environment in which to learn and grow.

Initially, preschoolers practice separating from their parents and becoming part of a group at school. As they gain experience, they learn from each other using words and cooperation. They are recognized for making appropriate choices, and are guided through more difficult times.

Elementary students hold weekly class meetings with an agenda for making rules and solving problems as a community of learners. Here, children can express grievances and look for solutions together.
