About Our Classrooms
Walk into a classroom at Chance and you will see a welcoming, vibrant, open space, bustling with activity and purposeful work and play. You will see children truly enjoying learning.

Each preschool room is organized into centers of learning. Centers differ for each age group. For preschool, they include areas such as blocks, pretend and dress-up, sensory and science, math manipulatives, writing, art, books, and group.

For elementary classes, areas of learning are incorporated with reading/writing workshop, math workshop, and theme study (science, social studies) that allow for small and large groups as well as independent program components.

There are quiet areas and active areas, group spaces and individual spaces. Bins of supplies, books, and materials are accessible to students, and their work is displayed throughout the room.

The classroom, class size and schedule are carefully and deliberately arranged to encourage students to learn and develop through exploration, interaction, work and play. Furniture and materials are organized in such a way as to promote accessibility of learning tools and ownership of one’s learning space. Teachers observe closely for teachable moments, that is, opportunities to extend learning. There is a predictable pattern to the day and consistent expectations that ground the elements of our child-centered program of open-ended learning and individualized work.
