Extended Programs on School Days
As a service to parents of Chance students ages 2 through 5th grade, Chance School offers several program options for adding to the regular school schedule. The school continually strives to meet the needs of Chance students and families and our Extended Programs are no exception. Organized by Chance’s Extended Program Coordinator and staffed by Chance lead teachers and assistants, groupings are made in accordance with the appropriate ratios per age as enrollment dictates. Registration will be on a first-come, paid basis as outlined on required forms.
Program routines include:
- Center activities and projects that are age-appropriate.
- Playtime in the Funroom or on the playground in the morning and afternoon.
- Snack provided by the school, along with orange juice, milk or water.
- Lunch brought from home with milk provided by the school. We stress the importance of sending nutritious foods so that children are ready for the afternoon’s activities. Access to both microwave and refrigerator makes a variety of menus possible.
- Rest time for preschoolers during afternoon programs, allowing for sleepers to nap and non-sleepers to play quietly on mats for this designated period.
The schedule remains flexible to take advantage of weather and special events.
Chance Chums
Available before and after school for current Chance students, on days the regular classes are in session. While families have some flexibility when planning, the Chums option provides a consistent schedule for students needing an extended school schedule on an ongoing basis. Chums begins on the first day of school and continues for registered students on days they attend classes until the last day of the fall and spring semesters. Chums is not available on days when classes are not in session due to holidays, school breaks, conferences or professional development days.
Chums registration is on a yearly basis, yet payment is made montly. Chums registration plus 1 month’s payment is due mid-July. The balance of fees is paid monthly. Monthly rates are calculated according to the actual number of days Chums is in session according to the school calendar. The difference in rates on Mondays and Fridays reflects the closing of school for holidays, conference days, and professional development days when Chums is not available. (2008-2009 fees)

Enrichment
Offered throughout the school year after regular school schedule, enrichment classes are an option for families who want to extend their child’s day on a short-term basis. A variety of classes is offered for current four-year-olds through fifth graders. Previous choices have included art, basketball, chess, chorus, cooking, computer, and cross country. Registration for enrichment is on a first-come, paid in full basis. Each offering will require a minimum number of participants to guarantee that the class meets AND a maximum enrollment that the teacher can accommodate.
