Preschool Twos Teacher
I earned my masters degree in primary education from Indiana University-Southeast. I also have a bachelors in speech and hearing sciences from Indiana University-Bloomington. I’ve spent 10 years working with children through sports. I’ve coached track and field at kiddie clinics, summer camps, & did volunteer coaching too. I was also on the board of bringing Champions Together, a co-ed unified track team through Special Olympics, to my school. I was a caregiver in-between, and then spent two years at Kindercare before being offered the privilege to grow here at Virginia Chance.
I truly believe that our youth is powerful; as an educator I have an obligation to create a safe, respectful, and inclusive experience for young minds to blossom. Choosing Progressive Education as my platform came naturally while developing my teaching philosophy. I encourage an environment that promotes community, self-motivation, self-regulation, deeper thinking through essential questions & experience, and by seeing every child as an individual person.
When it comes to working with preschool, there isn’t a more fitting style of learning than an outdoor integrated curriculum. Being in nature allows students to advance their fine and gross motor skills, and expand active learning outside of the classroom. Being outdoors provides me with more range for creativity when constructing lesson plans for students.
Finally, when I’m not teaching, I’m trying out new recipes or creating my own, shopping with my daughter (she’s one year-old, so it’s really for me), enjoying my love/skate relationship with roller skating, spending time with my beautiful family of three, or reading a good autobiography.
