Parties & Celebrations

We value learning, fun, play, and celebrations at Virginia Chance School! Teachers and parents work together to coordinate celebrations. They also work together to make appropriate decisions and choices for the event. Each classroom has Room Parents who also help with parties and celebrations.

Birthday Celebrations

  • Students may bring an edible treat to share with the class to celebrate their birthdays. This treat may be homemade or store-bought. Please consider low sugar options, as we can have up to 20+ celebrations each year!
  • Birthday treats must be appropriate for students with allergies (as informed by the class’s teachers).
  • A list of appropriate and suggested treats will be provided at opening conferences.
  • Souvenirs, favors, crafts, or other take-home items are NOT part of the birthday celebration—that is a choice for cultural and theme celebrations only.
  • Classes have their own unique traditions to celebrate birthdays, such as having a special activity or book.
  • Party invitations must be sent from home, not school.
  • Birthday parties will not be assembled to leave school (due to the nature of our carpool and safety concerns and to be sensitive to those who may be excluded from celebrations).

Cultural Celebrations

  • We encourage students to share their cultures, holiday rituals, religious traditions, family traditions, etc.
  • If food is part of that celebration, special edible treats are allowed. (Guidelines for allergies must be followed.) Please consider low sugar options, as we can have up to 20+ celebrations each year!
  • Souvenirs, favors, crafts, and non-edible take-home items are allowed for whole-class celebrations. At your opening conference, you will get a list of appropriate and suggested take-home items to help you if you choose to provide them.

Theme Celebrations

  • We recognize the importance of celebrating our learning, and theme celebrations may be held several times a year.
  • If food is part of that celebration, special edible treats are allowed. (Guidelines for allergies must be followed.)
  • Souvenirs, favors, crafts, and non-edible take-home items are allowed for whole-class celebrations. At your opening conference, you will get a list of appropriate and suggested take-home items to help you if you choose to provide them.
