John Mican

Director of Grounds and Historic Preservation

I attended the University of Illinois and obtained a B.A. from Columbia College studying photography. I have worked at Virginia Chance since 2007. Before moving to Louisville from Chicago in 1996 I was a construction contractor. Prior to working at VCS, I was employed by the Louisville Visual Art Association in various roles including teaching photography, director of special events, installing art in their four galleries and director of maintenance of the historic Water Tower and other LVAA properties. I have also worked as a carpenter rehabbing houses in the Louisville area.

I was the Head Women's Tennis Coach at Bellarmine University for 16 years. I have two brilliant daughters that are both graduates of Bellarmine University. I am married to Louisville native, photographer Martha Work and I enjoy playing tennis, cycling, reading, and spending time with my family and friends.

It is very rewarding and inspiring to work with the dedicated staff and creative teachers at VCS.
