Alayne Vokurka

Kindergarten & Primary 1 Teacher
I have a Master of Arts in Early Childhood Education with a Reading Endorsement from Indiana University and a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Hanover College. I have sixteen years of experience in education working as a teacher, literacy coach and interventionist.

After extensive research and practice in the field, I became passionate about progressive approaches to education that involve learning through play and giving children time to explore the world around them and create meaning. I found that the more traditional practices do not allow time for children to develop this sense of wonder. I began seeking a community where I am surrounded by joy and coworkers who genuinely enjoy the company of children and feel that I have found that at Chance!

When I am not busy learning alongside my students, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our three children. We enjoy traveling, hiking and just being together. Our family is also passionate about the Kentucky Humane Society and enjoy volunteer work through their foster program. Being a parent myself has allowed me to look at each student knowing they are someone’s whole world.
