Kindergarten & Primary 1 Teacher
I earned my Master of Arts in Early Childhood Education with a Reading Specialist Endorsement from Indiana University, my consultant license, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Hanover College. I have eighteen years of experience in education, working as a teacher, literacy coach, and interventionist in reading and math.
After extensive research and practice in the field, I became passionate about progressive approaches to education that involve learning through play and giving children time to explore the world around them and create meaning. I genuinely believe that teaching children how to think instead of what to think creates a lifelong love of learning and wonder. I value a focus on the whole child and hold dear children's thoughts and passions. The grounds surrounding Virginia Chance School cannot be compared to any other campus. The woods implore students to explore and evoke curiosity and wonder. The outdoor experience couples so beautifully with the project work that is unique to our program. Students are genuinely able to see themselves as an essential part of our great big world. I sought a community where I would be surrounded by kindred spirits who genuinely enjoy the company of children and have found that and more at Virginia Chance School!
When I am not busy learning alongside my students, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our three boys. We enjoy traveling, hiking, fishing, and just being together. Our family is also passionate about the Kentucky Humane Society and enjoy volunteer work through their foster program. Being a parent myself has allowed me to look at each student, knowing they are someone's whole world. It is truly a gift to spend my days at such a magical place!
