Chris Bowling

School Nurse

I earned my Associates in Nursing from Galen College of Nursing. I have additional certification in Emergency Medical Studies and most recently completed the Franklin Institute Children’s Vaccine Education Cohort. This project aims to empower nurses as leaders in vaccine education in their schools and communities. I have previously worked for JCPS health services for 11 years. During my time with JCPS, I worked as a school nurse, health screening nurse and also vaccine coordinator. In the role of vaccine coordinator I completed Vaccines for Children (VFC)  training and opened three VFC sites to allow the district to administer vaccines to employees and children.

I chose school nursing as a career because I am passionate about bridging the gap between health related factors and educational success.I believe there are three main connections between health and education:

  1.  Education can create opportunities for better health.
  2.  Poor health can put educational attainment at risk (reverse causality).
  3.  Conditions throughout people’s lives-beginning in early childhood- can affect both health and education.

It is my hope to build trusting relationships as a medical provider at Virginia Chance School while improving the educational experience through health and wellness. I believe nature-based learning has many health benefits for students. Students are able to reduce stress, improve physical and sensory development, and develop cognitive, social and emotional learning. I am excited to share the knowledge I have with Chance’s learners and empower them with health education courses.

I have adopted 6 children from Foster Care and am still currently fostering which keeps me very busy! My weekends typically consist of dance, cheerleading, wrestling, football, baseball, or spontaneous road trips to explore new places. Two of my sons have been diagnosed with Autism and my youngest is considered Level 3/non-verbal. I’ve learned that Love Needs No Words. In my free time, I play women’s softball C division where I am a WSL World Champion. I am passionate about Autism Awareness, Suicide Prevention Awareness and mental health. I love Jesus, all things sports (Louisville Cardinals and Baltimore Ravens), and my Granny!
