Reports To: Director of Elementary Program, Head of School
Qualities: Virginia Chance School is looking for elementary school teachers who align with the school's mission and vision. Ideal candidates are team-oriented and will collaborate closely with their co-teachers, the teaching team, and the Director of Elementary School.
An enthusiastic, positive, creative and nurturing Elementary Teacher who knows the ages and stages of childhood development; responsible for planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate, whole child, progressive educational curriculum for children cognitively, socially, emotionally, morally and physically; has a growth mind-set and is a lifelong learner.

Certified Elementary Teaching Certificate
Master’s degree
Experience working with elementary-age children
Willingness to commit professionally to progressive education tenets, the Developing Capable Young People approach to discipline, Social and Emotional Learning, nature-based learning, and Chance School's DEIBJ initiatives, is required
Candidates must have reliable, timely transportation and be committed to timeliness
Skills:
Provide a developmentally appropriate program that addresses all areas of child development
Understand and apply teaching principles of Progressive Education
Know and apply the learning process and child development
Utilize a variety of resources effectively across all curricular areas
Establish mutual respect and a positive, nurturing learning environment
Establish and maintain classroom procedures and management
Communicate effectively, both written and verbal
Observe and assess ages, stages, learning and performance and report assessment results
Use assessment tools and results effectively to guide instructional decisions and planning
Use and Teach 21st Century learning skills
Organize and maintain records, lesson plans, attendance, etc.
Collaborate with colleagues, families, and staff
Support and establish partnerships with families
Grow and develop professionally, learn new skills
Use technology effectively
Work effectively and cooperatively with teaching partner
Comfortable and prepared to teach a portion of the day outdoors on a daily basis in all weather, with outdoor integrated programming guided by the director of Environmental Programs.
