Sarah Queen
Primary First/Second Teacher
Dr. Sarah Queen brings a rich combination of educational leadership, classroom experience, and deep community connection to her work as a First/Second Grade Teacher at Virginia Chance School.
Sarah earned her doctorate in Educational Leadership and holds a Master’s in Teaching with a focus on Elementary Education from the University of the Cumberlands. She also holds an MBA, along with a Master’s and Bachelor’s in Accountancy from the University of Louisville. Her educational background reflects both a commitment to teaching and a strong foundation in leadership, organization, and thoughtful problem-solving.
Sarah has been part of the Virginia Chance School community since 2013 and has served the school in many meaningful roles, including parent, volunteer, substitute teacher, Chums teacher, preschool 2s teacher, student teacher, K/1 teacher, activities and events coordinator, and now First/Second Grade Teacher. This broad experience gives her a deep understanding of Chance’s philosophy, community, and the developmental journey of children across the school.
Sarah’s passion for progressive education began when her daughter, Mia, enrolled in the 3s preschool program at Chance. As both an educator and a parent, Sarah has seen the lasting social and academic impact of a Chance education. Mia’s positive memories of her years at Chance continue to affirm Sarah’s belief in the power of a school experience where children are known, challenged, supported, and encouraged to love learning.
In the classroom, Sarah values inquiry, curiosity, community, and meaningful engagement. She believes children learn best when they are seen and understood as individual learners, invited to ask questions, and encouraged to connect their learning to real-world experiences. Her approach helps students build confidence, creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a sense of ownership in their learning.
Sarah is especially passionate about experiential learning and the way it helps children make deeper connections across subjects and ideas. She also values opportunities for students to engage with social responsibility, inclusivity, and classroom community, helping them grow as thoughtful, informed, and compassionate citizens.
At Chance, Sarah is grateful to be part of a community that honors children’s curiosity while supporting strong academic and social growth. She loves creating a classroom environment where learning feels joyful, relevant, and connected to the world beyond the classroom.
Outside of school, Sarah enjoys reading, walking her dog, Honey, dancing to Taylor Swift songs, and traveling with her family.
