welcome to Virginia chance school I'm Rachel back in on today's episode we're going to learn how to pack an Eco snack and lunch but still how much is teams this year that even passing a snack and lunch is doing pretty I know that keeping my body is also helping to keep others safe by packing my own containers my food even bring my own forks and spoons things to plan doing a little tricky so I put together my wondering what I should bring that also help her I'm going to need a little help reduce 3 is recycle don't mix them up do them in that order here are some tips to get you started try not to make trash in the first place use things that are made to last avoid single-use products especially plastic 1 identify packaging you do we use four boxes two bags two jars and plastic containers there are so many reusable items right under your nose and don't be afraid to give things away you never know what someone else could do and when you do have trash check to see if it's recyclable Terraria if it's not try to avoid that product in the future remember reduces number one then reuse and recycle if you can okay thanks to miss Karen's video on reduce reuse recycle I'm already seeing some things that I don't need to pack with my lunch like this plastic fork I know it's not recyclable and if I take it to school it's just going to go on the I'm not going to pack it in my lunch but I see that I have a fourth and it's no different kind of plastic spoon that I can reuse over and over again so I'm going to keep this as my utensils to send to my lunch I noticed I have a cloth napkin that I can wash and reuse over and over again or underneath here I have a paper napkin I think we just have to decide what feels best because that paper now will start to decompose and the trash even though it's not recyclable and you can't reuse it I also see that underneath here I have a plastic ziplock bag for great for storing items unfortunately cannot go to the recycling center and therefore would just be thrown away if we don't find a way to reuse it so perhaps I don't include this in my items to make lunch so what I see that's left is a thermos in several different size contain I think I have a good start okay now we're ready to pack our lunch and snack we know exactly what we need to bring we know what not to bring now we just have to figure out what food we want to eat for the day who's feeling a little anxious about taking all the food that we have in our homes and packing them into little containers wondering wait a second here to help us pack our lunch and snack let's go thank you for joining me on this episode of packing and Eco snack and lunch thank you to our partner and friend Public Works and two are sick friend for helping us get ready for school display thank you and say to doctor to watch what he star recycling once we follow the steps of reduce reuse recycle when you recycle at home you put all your items in the same day in this is called single-stream cycling trucks that collect your recycling take their loads to a materials recovery facility for Murph for short our local facility in Louisville is westrock recycling most household recycling goes there the trucks drops there price of recycled items at the Murph and the workers move those items into the Sorting process the recycled material is moved on a conveyor past workers who pull unwanted items off what do you season pulling off anything that could get tangled the upcoming machine including plastic bags those unwanted items are dropped into shoot forming new piled so recover as much as I can from there later this is the first it moves cardboard on top while smaller fall through more workers watch for unwanted items but at the end the cardboard falls into a pile the cardboard has been bailed together more on that later meanwhile all the smaller items are moving on other conveyors and getting further stuff made it into material type after a magnet pull Steel in 10 containers away there is an eddy current making aluminum can jump they jump into this pile then the can barbell together this is one of the baling machine the material goes into the machine to be compacted and tied together with wire the veils are then loaded onto trains and truck and sold to manufacturers in our region as ingredients to make new things
